WHAT WE DO

Community Climate Design Research & Development Foundation
(CCDRDF) is a Section 42 nonprofit registered in Pakistan. We make
critical disaster and climate information accessible to all — so disaster affectees and frontliners can make better decisions for immediate survival and long-term resilience.

One of the greatest barriers to climate adaptation is a lack of locally relevant, up-to-date information.

UN IPCC, 2018

Pakistan ranks 5th on the Global Climate Risk Index
UN Habitat, 2023

33 million were affected by the 2022 floods
World Bank, 2022

1/3rd of Pakistan went
underwater during the
2022 floods
NASA, 2022

Piloting for urban flooding in Karachi we aim to address this
information gap in all Pakistan for all major climate-related disasters; floods, droughts, heatwaves and smogs. Our core initiatives are:

Karachi Cartography™ recovers lost spatial data and environmental knowledge to analyze what the city was, is, and can be, for better better urban design and climate-responsive infrastructure.

AafatInfo™ is a real-time disaster information sharing app co-designed with over 600 citizens. It gathers and sorts citizen reports and social media shares during urban flooding events into a live map of on-ground conditions.
